About people in photographs
Nobody shown in any photograph on this site is a RISEA learner. We do not photograph the people we work with.
Where a person appears in an image here, they are an incidental member of the public in a photograph of a place. The photograph was taken by somebody else, and nobody in it is identified. Alt text describes what an image shows. It never asserts who a person is.
The rule these are chosen by
- Licence verified at source before use. Each licence above was read on the source page on the date shown, not assumed from a filename. An image whose licence cannot be traced does not go on the site.
- UK settings only. Several images available to us were taken in the United States, Australia, Germany, Indonesia and the Czech Republic. They were excluded. A site teaching people about British shops should not illustrate it with shops in other countries, even where the brand is the same.
- No retailer logos or brand marks. Placing a company's logo on these pages would imply an association that does not exist. Photographs of ordinary shop fronts in public places are a different thing and are used descriptively.
- No image whose only job is filling space. Every photograph here is on a page where recognising the thing in it is part of the point.
Photographs that do not exist yet
Where this site shows a labelled empty frame rather than a photograph — the portrait on the About page is the main one — that is deliberate. No AI-generated image of a real named person is used here. An honest gap is better than a synthetic founder.
